Happy New Year!

Yikes, where did 2011 go? The back half of the year was completely buried in a flurry of rush jobs and holiday traveling. In years past, I would have taken this opportunity to ponder the passage of time, meaning of life, etc. But now that I’m a dad, all I have time to think about is getting to bed early to try and keep up with my rambunctious son!

Speaking of which, here are a few pics from this past November, when Tycho and I celebrated our 1st and 27th birthdays together. We’re only 6 days apart, so I imagine this tradition will continue for some time.

The cake! Illustrated by me, with the actual decoration done by my lovely wife Emma.

Emma had the idea to do a Jango-and-Boba-Fett-themed cake, so I did a quick pencil sketch that she turned into this edible masterpiece. The surrounding graham crackers have frosting in the middle and were quickly devoured as well.

Blowing out the candle...

Apparently it’s a tradition in Emma’s family that every baby, on their first birthday, be encouraged to demolish a piece of chocolate cake. Tycho, however, seemed more interested in a clinical study of the dessert (i.e. squishing it between his fingers) than eating it.

Begin the dissection...

A test taste.

The aftermath.

I’m currently putting together my master plan for 2012 and will hopefully be posting in this blog more frequently. My online portfolio has more or less reached saturation — though I’m frequently working on and completing new projects, most of them are not radically different from what I’ve already got online, nor of a sufficiently higher caliber to bump off one of their currently featured comrades. So rather than feature only the best of the best, I think I’ll start using this blog to show off a wider spectrum of work, with at least one major post per month. We’ll see if I can stick to it!
