In April, Chris and I took Black Rose to the Small Press And Comics Expo (SPACE) in Columbus, Ohio. This was our first time at SPACE, our first Ohio con, and our first two-day con, so we didn’t quite know what to expect.

It turned out to be a great show. There was a lot of great indie talent on display and a steady stream of visitors who were looking for cool new stuff — and ready to buy! In fact, we actually sold out of Issue #1 on the second day. We’ll definitely need to bring more copies next year! And we made a lot of great new fans, several of whom came back to our table multiple times for “just one more” issue.

Then we exhibited at the Summit City Comic Con in May. It was the third year for the Fort Wayne con — we’ve been there every year and it only gets bigger and better each time. But we had no idea how much bigger this year would turn out to be.
They must have done a big advertising push this year, because there was a near-constant crush of people streaming in and out of the con. We sold more stuff than the past two Summits combined, and definitely set our one-day sales record. It’s the first con I’ve exhibited at where there was never really any lull or break throughout the entire day — it was so busy I was actually surprised when they announced that it was 6:00 and the con was over! Aaron and Jill were with us and it was a good thing, too — we definitely needed the extra hands on deck for this one. An amazing job by Zack Kruse and team, and we are super-psyched to return next year.
